Emancipation Proclamation (1863)
By the President of the United States of America:
A Proclamation.
Whereas, on the twenty-second day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-two, a proclamation was issued by the President of the United States, containing, among other things, the following, to wit:
"That on the first day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, all persons held as slaves within any State or designated part of a State, the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against the United States, shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free; and the Executive Government of the United States, including the military and naval authority thereof, will recognize and maintain the freedom of such persons, and will do no act or acts to repress such persons, or any of them, in any efforts they may make for their actual freedom.
Over 270,000 remained enslaved for 2 1/2 years after this went into into law.
Major Gen. Gordon Granger would arrive in Galveston with news that the war was over and yeah, we had been freed 2 years prior, June 19th, 1865.
Almost 200 years later we are still fighting for the same freedom and equality.
Why haven't we made changes? What is the hold up?
I explore the meaning of Juneteenth with my friend Lawrence Harris, reflecting on the meaning of freedom and friendship.

This episode is dedicated to beauty in this world. Even though I am usually a cynical people hater, COVID has forced me to become more social, but virtually with weekly online games and catch up with friends. To my exploration of the Guggenheim in NYC.
I remember my visit to the NYC Met but never to this fascinating museum...art should be shared with the masses in a cool space!!
This Virtual Visit discussed food culture and how food is used as a storyteller. I also was introduced and re-introduced to the works of African American Artists Charles Ethan Porter
Who was reviewed in the NY times in 2008
and whose work is part of the permanent collection at the Guggenheim and Met
And Kara Walker 2014 work Subtlety
made out of tons of sugar which commissioned and then destroyed with the renovation of the entire of the Domino Refinery in Brooklyn.
Her work is part of the permanent collection at the Guggenheim, and although I initially did not remember reading this article, I remember the feeling of being haunted when I saw the sugar sculpture today.
This virtual tour also allowed me to look for other museums like the African American Museum, the DuSable in Chicago.
and other opportunities to explore black and brown peoples returning to the land and contributing to the food culture like Soul Fire Farms and using Kune Kune Heritage Pigs for meat!
You never know where your curiosity will take you. Try to discover the beauty and you may just find yourself...happy.

Martin Understood the Rage.
If you are marginalized, beaten, killed, it may seem logical to strike back to be noticed. But brutally restoring order, destroying businesses, will not solve the problems. When you march and speak the message and make your demands clear, that is when you are heard and then action can be taken.
"It was through the Chicago marches that our promise to them-that nonviolence achieves results-was redeemed, and their hopes for a better life were rekindled. They saw a human police force-in contrast to police in Missisippi-could defend the exercise of Constitutional rights as well as enforce the law in the ghetto. They saw in prosperous white American communities, that hatred and bigotry could and should be confronted, exposed, and dealt with." Martin Luther King Jr, McCalls 1966.

I pray for understanding, and peace. A week started with another murder of a unarmed black man, caught videotaped and we are now in day 6 of violent fiery protests.
In the week prior to his death, being picketed and jeered by maybe the grandparents of these fools protesting the quarantine, Martin Luther King was very clear
“…it is not enough for me to stand before you tonight and condemn riots. It would be morally irresponsible for me to do that without, at the same time, condemning the contingent, intolerable conditions that exist in our society. These conditions are the things that cause individuals to feel that they have no other alternative than to engage in violent rebellions to get attention. And I must say tonight that a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it America has failed to hear?…It has failed to hear that the promises of freedom and justice have not been met. And it has failed to hear that large segments of white society are more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice and humanity.” (“The Other America,” 1968).
Celebrate Law Enforcement Doing the Right Thing...From Lansing to Miami to CA
So I have a crush on Sheriff Swanson, I do dig a man in uniform...
Lansing Sheriff Doing the right thing
The images over the last few hours have been horrific and frightening. But the sight of law enforcement doing the right thing, make me cry and try to find ways that more people need to know
Florida Policemen Doing the Right thing
CA Policemen Doing the Right Thing
Officers like the LAPD expressed the thoughts of other law enforcement that they are not the enemy, there are bad cops, and they need to be punished. But it should not spoil the relationship of law enforcement and the community in general.
A diversion of truly wonderful things happening like the successful launch of Space X on Saturday ushering in a new chapter of the Space Race,

Does it seem to anyone else we are living in a collective high anxiety stream of verbal abuse? In our 24/7 news cycle, Twitter, Instagram the barrage of trash talking and incinderary language coming from so-called leaders and other charged to protect us. We have been in a nightmare abusive relationship with our current administration, state, local, law enforcement it seems as if the world is off it's axis. Never has there been a better time to ask for help by professionals.

Tess by King Pedophile Roman Polanski,
This multiple-Oscar-winning film by Roman Polanski is an exquisite, richly layered adaptation of Thomas Hardy's Tess of the d'Urbervilles. A strong-willed peasant girl is sent by her father to the estate of local aristocrats to capitalize on a rumor that their families are from the same line. This fateful visit launches an epic narrative of sex, class, betrayal, and revenge.
